ATLANTA – Timothy Martin of Cleveland, Ga., is the first to win $1 million on the new Georgia Lottery instant game Millionaire Mania.
Little Giant Grocery, 1924 Atlanta Highway in Gainesville, sold the top prize ticket. Martin, 50, scratched his lucky ticket in the store.
"I had an adrenaline rush," Martin said. "I was shaking, the hair was raising up on my hands, and then I realized it was real."
Martin, who works as a salesman for a Gainesville auto parts store, is still deciding how to spend his winnings.
"I don't have an earthly idea yet, but naturally I'll be saving some," he said.
The Georgia Lottery's Millionaire Mania tickets went on sale Tuesday. The $10 game is loaded with cash prizes, including 10 top prizes of $1 million. The $1 million top prizes will be paid in a lump sum.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
