Georgia Lottery Corporation announces today that it will continue sponsorship of the 2008 Tour de Georgia presented by AT&T. As part of its support of North America’s premier cycling event and rolling festival (April 21-27, 2008), the Georgia Lottery will sponsor the Tour’s Most Aggressive Rider jersey. And they will create a first in the six years of the Tour by involving fans in the voting process for this award jersey.
The Georgia Lottery is putting an interactive twist to the Most Aggressive Rider competition. Fans can go to the Tour’s official web site, www.tourdegeorgia.com, and vote for the Georgia Lottery Most Aggressive Rider each day via the online voting page. In addition, fans can vote for the Georgia Lottery Most Aggressive Rider at the Georgia Lottery booth in the Health and Wellness Expo. Fans who participate in person at the expo can register to win an autographed Georgia Lottery Most Aggressive Rider jersey, along with Georgia Lottery merchandise including free play coupons. The Georgia Lottery will also bring their mobile gaming trailer to Stage 7 in Atlanta on Sunday, April 27 at Centennial Olympic Park.
The Most Aggressive Rider jersey was first awarded at the Tour de Georgia in 2005. It is given at the end of each stage to the rider who demonstrates the most forceful attacks, breakaways or strategies. The award has previously been determined by a panel of media and race entourage officials. Previous winners include Cesar Grajales (COL), Jittery Joe’s Professional Cycling Team in 2007; Will Frischkorn (USA), Team TIAA-CREF in 2006; and Andrea Tafi (ITL), Saunier Duval-Prodir in 2005.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $9.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
