ATLANTA – The stork delivered a new grandchild and a Georgia Lottery win on the same day for a lucky Madison man. Kenny Davenport won $150,000 playing the instant game Giant Jumbo Bucks while his daughter was in labor.
"My daughter was in the hospital having a baby, and I stepped out to get a bite to eat," he shared. "Something just made me stop and buy the ticket."
Davenport purchased his top prize ticket at Monia Food Mart, located at 3010 McEver Road in Gainesville. He scratched the ticket in the store.
"It flipped me out," he exclaimed. "I showed it to the clerk, and he hugged my neck."
Davenport, 42, works for an electric supply company. He will use his winnings to purchase a new home, a new truck and to help others.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
