ATLANTA – For 19 years, a Cumming grandmother has provided a helping hand to patrons at Wal-Mart where she works. Now 74-year-old Betty Finnemore has the Georgia Lottery recognizing her.
Finnemore has won a $400,000 top prize playing the instant game Kings & Queens, and she is all smiles.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” the grandmother of three said.
She purchased her lucky ticket at Quick Stop, 2383 Canton Highway in Cumming, and scratched it in the store.
“I asked the cashier, ‘Am I seeing things,’ ” she questioned. “He shook my hand.”
A mother of two adult children, Finnemore said retirement is not in sight.
“I plan to get a new dishwasher, a new car, a new living room set, and that’s about all,” she shared.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
