ATLANTA – A Thomson miner has chalked his Georgia Lottery win up to having good luck. Michael Moss, a chalk miner, has won a $1 million top prize playing the instant game Georgia Lottery Black.
Following a visit to the doctor’s office, Moss stopped at Quick Mart, 402 Main St. in Thomson, and purchased a ticket.
“I had played the ticket before, and I like the black and gold on it,” he said.
Moss, 34, scratched it in the store and was surprised instantly.
“I made a scene, and I think the guy beside me saw it before I did,” he said. “I was hyperventilating.”
Moss has worked for 10 years in Wrens as a chalk miner. He and his wife, Shamika, are ecstatic about winning their prize.
“We just want to be comfortable,” he said. “We’ll buy a new house and put the kids through college.”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.
