ATLANTA – A stroke of luck has delivered a lifetime win for a Brantley County grandfather who played a Georgia Lottery instant game. Beryl Sweat of Hortense has won $52,000 a year playing the instant game $1,000 A Week For Life.
Sweat, 60, has selected the cash option, totaling $781,024 before taxes.
“I like the $1,000 A Week For Life instant ticket,” he explained. “It was raining that evening, and I got bored, so I went to the store.”
Friendly Express #0091, 19144 Highway 301 N. in Hortense, sold the winning ticket.
“I scratched it in my pickup, and I thought I’d won another ticket,” Sweat said. “I scratched it on off, and I feel pretty good.”
A grandfather of 10, Sweat has two adult children with his wife, Darlene.
Sweat intends to pay off bills with his windfall.
