ATLANTA – A Dacula woman has hooked a huge Georgia Lottery prize in Snellville. Kelly Bronaugh, 39, won a $1 million top prize playing the instant game 50X The Money.
While on her lunch break, Bronaugh stopped at Sams Mart #0513, 3125 Lenora Church Road in Snellville, to purchase a Coke and the ticket.
“My birthday was earlier in the week, and someone had given me a $20 gift card,” she explained. “I work in a medical office, and I scratched it while at my desk.”
Bronaugh described her experience as “pure shock.”
“I had to ask a co-worker if it was real,” she said. “I started screaming then everyone else started screaming.”
With her husband, Neil, the couple have a son, who attends Georgia Lottery-funded Pre-K.
“I love it, and he loves it,” she shared.
The lucky winner intends to pay off bills with her winnings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
