ATLANTA – A Homerville great-grandmother has won a generous prize from the Georgia Lottery. Monique Vinson, 57, won a $100,000 prize playing the holiday-themed instant game Sparkling Surprise.
Vinson’s husband, Robert, purchased the ticket at Argyle Food Mart, 6366 Main St. in Argyle.
“My husband had gone for milk. He bought a couple of tickets and gave me a few,” she explained.
Scratching the ticket while at home, Vinson couldn’t believe her discovery.
“We’re going to pay off our mortgage and other bills,” she shared.
A bank teller, Vinson and her husband have four adult children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The lucky winner claimed her prize Dec. 1 at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Tifton.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education.
