ATLANTA – The Georgia Lottery has partnered with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to observe Problem Gambling Awareness Month in March. The annual initiative promotes public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services.
The Georgia Lottery is a member of NCPG and contributes annually to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) to fund research, education and treatment of gambling addiction, as well as the Georgia Crisis and Access Line.
“The resources provided by the Georgia Lottery Corporation have helped us engage behavioral health providers to offer evidence-based screening, intervention, and treatment for people who struggle with gambling,” said DBHDD Commissioner Judy Fitzgerald. “By leveraging our provider network, we can treat gambling addiction along with any co-occurring substance use disorders an individual may have, which leads to more effective recovery.”
The Georgia Crisis and Access Line serves as the state’s problem gambling helpline and provides support to Georgians seeking help for a gambling problem. This toll-free helpline is available 24/7 at: 1-866-922-7369.
“The Georgia Lottery is proud of its partnerships with NCPG and DBHDD,” Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin said. “We encourage everyone to play responsibly and are dedicated to ensuring Georgia Lottery players have access to resources that provide help for problem gambling.”
Responsible gaming has been an integral part of the Georgia Lottery since inception.
In Fiscal Year 2017, the Georgia Lottery attained certification for its commitment to responsible gaming from NCPG. This year, the Georgia Lottery has continued its efforts to combat problem gambling by:
· Becoming verified as a lottery that functions at Implementation level per the standards of NCPG and the National Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL).
The Georgia Lottery remains committed to protecting its players and provides tools, information and assistance to those seeking help.
