ATLANTA – The Georgia Lottery has partnered with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) to observe Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) for the month of March. The annual initiative promotes public awareness of problem gambling, positive play, and the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services.
Responsible gaming has been an integral part of the Georgia Lottery since inception. The Georgia Lottery is committed to protecting its players and provides tools, information and assistance to those seeking help.
As a part of that effort, the Georgia Lottery contributes $400,000 annually to the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) to fund research, education and treatment of gambling addiction.
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, with the support of the Georgia Lottery Corp., contracts with four community-based treatment providers to deliver treatment to individuals who struggle with problem gambling and gambling addiction. In addition, the DHBDD supports the Georgia Problem Gambling Hotline.
“DBHDD is committed to providing easy access to high-quality care for all Georgia citizens in need of gambling treatment services,” DBHDD Commissioner Judy Fitzgerald said.
In Fiscal Year 2020, the Georgia Lottery attained certification for its commitment to responsible gaming from NCPG. Additionally, the Georgia Lottery has been granted accreditation by the World Lottery Association (WLA) for the WLA Responsible Gaming Framework.
The Georgia Problem Gambling Hotline provides confidential, one-on-one support to Georgians who are seeking help for a gambling problem. This toll-free helpline is available 24/7 at: 866-922-7369. Additionally, the Georgia Lottery provides self-awareness and self-help tools to players on its website.
As always, the Georgia Lottery reminds players to “Play responsibly; it’s all about fun!”
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $23 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.9 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.6 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program. Our biggest winners are always Georgia’s students.
