ATLANTA — A Smyrna man has become the largest KENO! winner in Georgia Lottery history thanks to the game's new multiplier feature. Obinna Ekeleme, 32, won $100,000 by matching seven winning numbers in a single KENO! play.
Ekeleme won his record-breaking prize on Sunday, the same day the Georgia Lottery introduced KENO! with Multiplier. The new feature allows KENO! players a chance to increase their winnings up to 10 times.
Fast Trip Convenience Store, 1045 Franklin Road in Marietta, sold the winning ticket. Ekeleme randomly selected his lucky numbers.
"It's a game of chance," he said. "This was pure luck."
Ekeleme shared that he enjoys working with numbers and probability.
In two separate KENO! plays, he also won $3,000 and $6,000.
He has no immediate plans for his winnings.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned more than $9.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia's Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
