ATLANTA – The cultural arts director for the city of Winder has won a quarter-million dollar prize playing the Georgia Lottery. Donald Wildsmith has matched the first five winning numbers in the Jan. 11 Mega Millions drawing, winning a $250,000 prize.
Winning numbers from the Jan. 11 drawing were: 1-4-11-16-45 and the Mega Ball was 37. Publix Super Markets #1251, 916 Loganville Highway in Bethlehem, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.
Wildsmith, 63, conceded that he’d forgotten about his ticket. After realizing he had it, he discovered the good news while on his way to work.
A resident of Bethlehem, Wildsmith lives with his wife, Dana.
“We have no plans at all for right now but to pay bills,” he shared.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $12.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.25 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
