ATLANTA – A pool of 10 employees from the American Honda Motor Company Inc. recently claimed a $1 million prize from the Feb. 15 Powerball drawing.
Winning numbers from the Feb. 15 drawing were: 5-28-33-38-42 and the Powerball was 19. The group matched the first five winning numbers using the Quik Pik option.
Dennis Burgess, a 39-year-old stock and material handler for Honda and a member of the pool, said that he was in disbelief when he discovered that the group had a winning ticket.
“I was sitting in the parking lot when I checked the numbers online,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Soon after learning the good news, Burgess said that he rushed to tell his co-workers about their prize.
“Everyone was excited,” he said. “We’re just trying to take it all in.”
AM PM Woodstock Convenience Store, located at 12152 Highway 92 in Woodstock, sold the winning ticket.
Burgess claimed the group’s lucky prize Friday at the Georgia Lottery Duluth District Office.
Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is an estimated $403 million to a single annuity winner.
As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Powerball will benefit education in the state of Georgia.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $18.1 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.4 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
